80 candidates backed by the Minnesota Parents Alliance win election to school board
The Minnesota Parents Alliance helped another 80 candidates win election to local school boards in the 2024 election, winning 56% of the races with their recommended candidates. Even better, MPA won at least one seat in 47 out of the 60 districts where they recommended candidates, a 78% district win rate. Those wins helped parent-backed candidates take the majority of thirteen additional school boards, including large suburban districts like Lakeville, Elk River, Forest Lake and Prior Lake. The data shows that once an achievement-focused candidate wins election in a district, MPA has been able to add one or more members in subsequent elections. Eighty percent of districts that elected parent-backed candidates in the 2022 election added one or more MPA-recommended candidates again this year.
Voters across the state relied on the Voter Guide on the MPA website to find parent-backed candidates focused on improving K-12 education by prioritizing student achievement, student and teacher safety, transparency, accountability and parent-teacher partnership.
“Minnesotans are starting to recognize better leadership when they see it,” said Cristine Trooien, Executive Director of Minnesota Parents Alliance. “Over the past two election cycles, MPA has equipped and supported parents and community members to engage in a bottom-up effort to refocus our public school system on delivering better results. Hard work pays off and local wins add up. Building on wins in 2022 and 2023, MPA now has a network of over 180 elected board members across the state who are committed to excellence and accountability in board governance and student outcomes. We look forward to continuing to cultivate a new generation of well-informed local leaders who are committed to putting students and their constituents first.”
The Minnesota Parents Alliance was launched in 2022 with the goal of educating and empowering parents to engage in their local school communities as strong advocates for academic achievement, equality and parental rights.
